Patient Navigator for Breast Cancer Patients
March 21, 2011
For the 2010 Annual Report for The Cancer Center at Kishwaukee Community Hospital

Our breast nurse patient navigator, Jodi Diehl, continues to work with individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Diehl works very closely with the radiologists, surgeons and oncologists to facilitate timeliness of services, while offering education and psychosocial support.

In 2009, 94% of those diagnosed with breast cancer at Kish Hospital were retained and 95% received partial or all of their treatment in the community.  The services of the breast patient navigator program have received many compliments from physicians and patients.
“The fear of possible breast cancer places an emotional strain on the individual, so the quicker we can confirm a diagnosis the better,” Diehl said.

Since implementing the program, Diehl has worked with physicians and many departments in the hospital to reduce the time from suspicious mammogram to confirmed diagnosis. Kish Hospital is extremely proud of the accomplishments made so far and will continue to seek ways to shorten the timeline even more.
